Students could retell a classic fairytale (or a “fractured version”), share “what I do after school,” or even “a tour of our school.” This could be posted on a K12 video site that shares work from 200 countries: http://bit.ly/StMedia. I suggest you look at videos made in Senegal and Mexico to show how life really is for other kids…amazing stuff. http://www.epals.com/blogs/teacherspotlight/archive/2011/12/02/little-photo-reporters.aspx has videos from gr. 4 students in Mexico.

Real Player http://www.real.com plays .flv files. When you download the newest version of the player it includes a a downloader that shows up on all videos such as YouTube (similar to the one you described here from Firefox). Unfortunately it doesn’t work with the Firefox 3.0 – we’ll see if they update.
